Lunch Time Concert at the JEA – Savannah, Georgia

The University of West Georgia Jazz Ensemble is a big band of nineteen musicians under the direction of  Dr. Daniel Bakos, professor of music at UWG (Carrollton). The ensemble performs big band jazz music of famous and historic bands such as Count Basie, Buddy Rich, Duke Ellington, Stand Kenton and more contemporary works from as Tom Kubis, Lew Anderson, John Fedchock, and others.  Chris Vadala, Vince DiMartino, Bobby Shew, Marvin Stamm, Lew Soloff, Joe Temperly, Rob McConnell, and Gary Foster are some of the well-known musicians who have played with the ensemble.

The ensemble performs extensively throughout the Southeast, toured Europe 2001, and currently is looking toward a second European tour.    The jazz ensemble hosts the annual Sunbelt Jazz Festival during April.  The Jazz Ensemble will present a concert, free to the public, at the Jewish Educational Alliance (5111 Abercorn Street) at 1:30 PM on Thursday, May 15th. The event is free and the public is encouraged to attend.

These seasoned volunteers can help solve most gardening dilemmas. You’ll also find community information from the Town of Mount Pleasant and various other non-profit organizations. the U.S. Men’s National Team against a French Rugby Union Club in Charleston, SC

USA Rugby announced its plans to host Clermont Auvergne Rugby in what should prove to be a hard fought match featuring the U.S. Men’s National Team against the French rugby union club from Clermont-Ferrand at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 9, in Charleston, S.C.  The event, which is not only the first of its kind for the city of Charleston, but also the state of South Carolina, will be hosted in part by the founder of ASM Clermont Auvergne, Michelin, and the Charleston Battery at Blackbaud Stadium, and is set to be broadcast live on ESPN Classic.  Tickets are available beginning May 30 through Tickets.com and Blackbaud Stadium 843.971.4625.  For more on USA Rugby, visit www.usarugby.org.

DREAMfest – Summerville Art Walk

DREAMfest, a gathering of exhibits, entertainment, refreshments and featured artists, will begin in downtown Summerville on third Thursdays each month from May to September, 5 to 8 p.m. The nights will host an Art Walk featuring local artists on Short Central and a free community concert as part of the 2008 concert series on Hutchinson Square. Shops and restaurants will be open until 8 p.m. and civic organizations will be encouraged to have booths around the downtown district.
