Mr. Diabate is a member of the Mandinka West African jeli (musician caste) family. His musical lineage goes back seven centuries to the time of Sunjata Keita, the conqueror of the Malian empire.

Gullah Gospel Extravaganza – Hilton Head, South Carolina

The award winning Mississippi Quartet has inspired audiences and celebrated the gospel through their powerful vocals for more than three decades. Their CD’s include “Jesus Is Alive and Well,†in 1996; “Love Will Go All the Way,†1998, and “Good Time, in 2000†which landed into the Top Ten of Billboard’s gospel albums chart in November, in just its second week of release. Accolades poured in during the next year when he group won Traditional Quartet of the Year at the Gospel Music Excellence Awards, and were nominated for Best Gospel Album at the Soul Train Music Awards. In May 2003, Williams and the Spiritual QC’s released their fourth disc, “Right on Time.â€

AWOL – All Walks of Life Inc., Savannah’ first and only spoken word (poetry) and hip-hop based youth development organization will partner with the Bluffton and Hilton Head Boys & Girls Clubs and local schools to present an inspirational and educational performance of issues affecting today’s youth using poetry, hip-hop and life.

Journey to a Spiritual Life – Hilton Head, South Carolina
De Gullah Playhouse Featuring World Premiere of Journey to a Spiritual Life, an original play written by native islanders Ruth Germany and Louise Cohen, entitled Journey to a Spiritual Life will share some of the Gullah people’s custom as they went into the wilderness to spend quiet time and seek closer relationship with the Lord and to become a member of a Christian Church. The individually true and unique stories will be complemented by natural music and imagery.
