Bed and Breakfast Tours in 2008 – Amelia Island, Florida

March 28, 2008 by Susanne Talentino

The Amelia Island Bed and Breakfast Association invites the public to enjoy three new open-house walking tours in 2008.

Beginning on Saturday, May 10, the seven member inns will offer a House and Garden Tour, giving guests a unique view of some of Amelia Island’s hidden gardens. Scheduled the day before Mother’s Day, the House and Garden Tour will showcase the properties’ flowering gardens, period architecture and unique decorating schemes.

Addison on Amelia, the Amelia Island Williams House, the Ash Street Inn, Elizabeth Pointe Lodge, Fairbanks House, Florida House Inn and the Hoyt House will participate in the tours.

In the fall, the inns will open again, on Saturday, Oct. 11, for a Fall Decorating Tour, and again on Saturday, Nov. 22, for a Holiday Cookie Tour.

Fairbanks House owner Theresa Hamilton, formerly the Holiday Tour coordinator, proposed three, smaller tours as a way for guests to enjoy the inns throughout the year.

Tickets for the tours are $20/each or $45 for the series and will be available beginning in April at any of the seven inns and the Chamber of Commerce Gateway Office.

Duke Ellington Concert features Sam Skelton

The Coastal Jazz Association presents a tribute to Duke Ellington on Sunday, April 27, 2008 which will feature special guest saxophonist, Sam Skelton. As a woodwind doubler, Mr. Skelton is well versed in any genre of music. His grasp of saxophone, clarinet and flute has enabled him to remain very busy in live performance as well as in the studio.

This event will be celebrating the legacy left by one of America’s greatest musicians/composers for what would have been his 109th birthday (born April 29, 1899).

Kinderkonzerts: The Jammin’Town Musicians – Summerville, South Carolina

March 28, 2008 by Susanne Talentino

The Charleston Symphony Orchestra, and Resident Conductor Scott Terrell, will present this season’s popular Kinderkonzert, The Jammin’ Town Musicians. Two performances of this entertaining, child-friendly concert will take place at 10:00 and 11:30 AM.

Designed for young children, Kinderkonzerts are fun, casual concerts that expose kids to music in an entertaining way. Ten musicians from the Charleston Symphony and Scott Terrell will start off the morning with a quick ride through the Kabalevsky’s Commedian’s Galop. Children are encouraged to dance and enjoy themselves during Scott Joplin’s ever-popular Maple Leaf Rag. The feature presentation will be Edie Hill’s Jammin’ Town Musicians; a humorous musical journey adapted from the Brothers Grimm fairytale, The Bremen Town Musicians. Narrator Anthony Pierce will lead the audience in the story of a colorful group of animals that decide to leave their hometown to become musicians. Choose to attend this performance at either 10:00 AM or 11:30 AM. All Kinderkonzerts are free of charge.
