Coastal Companion

Your ultimate guide to the coast

Georgetown

Georgetown County in South Carolina is located on the coast just south of Myrtle Beach. Georgetown County includes the city of Georgetown, Pawleys Island, Litchfield Beach and Murrells Inlet.

The area is known for miles of beautiful beaches, interesting history, but also for its famous hammocks. This is one of the reasons why the area is called the Hammock Coast. The other reason is the laid-back attitude and the relaxing atmosphere.

Here is the Coastal Spotlight video for Georgetown County.

Georgetown

Georgetown is the third oldest city in South Carolina and the county seat of Georgetown County. The historic district is listed on the National Registry of Historic Places.

Murrells Inlet

Murrells Inlet is known as the seafood capital of South Carolina. Here fishing is part of everyday life. There are over 30 local restaurants and many are located on the Marshwalk. The Fourth of July in Murrells Inlet is one of the most popular annual events in the area.

Places to visit:

Brookgreen Gardens

Brookgreen Gardens is an amazing place to visit. Plan to spend a long day here because Brookgreen Gardens has more that 1,200 sculptures spread over 50 acres. It goes without saying, but you just won’t be able to see everything in one day. Brookgreen Gardens also contains a Butterfly Garden, an aviary and the Lowcountry Zoo with native animals living in natural habitats.

Huntington Beach State Park

The state park is located in Murrells Inlet. Huntington Beach is an oceanfront state park with a great camping ground. Here you will have access to three miles of remote, unspoiled beach but you are just minutes away from Brookgreen Gardens, Murrells Inlet or Pawleys Island. The park is also a perfect spot for fishing, kayaking, hiking or biking. This is also were the Atalya Castle is located.
