Taste of Charleston, South Carolina

Read about Taste of Charleston, South Carolina 2009

The Greater Charleston Restaurant Association announces the 28th Annual “Taste of Charleston.” Significant changes have been made to this year’s festival. For the first time, the Taste of Charleston will be comprised of three separate events spanning three days: the Taste Iron Chef Competition on Friday, October 10th, the Taste of the Arts on Saturday, October 11th, and the Taste of Charleston at Boone Hall Plantation on Sunday, October 12th, from 10:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.

Proceeds from all “Taste” events will benefit Ronald McDonald House, Hollings Cancer Center and Charleston County Materials Resource Center. Additionally, contributions will be made towards College of Charleston and the Culinary Institute of Charleston scholarships.

“The traditional Sunday event has become so popular that we are expanding The Taste of Charleston into an exciting three-day format,” said Michael Saboe, Dean of the Culinary Institute of Charleston, “The benefits will be two-fold: even more members of the community will be able to participate and our charitable donation will increase accordingly.”

Returning to the main event on Sunday, at Boone Hall Plantation in Mt. Pleasant, SC, will be the second annual food and wine pairing with nearly twenty fine dining restaurants from the Lowcountry, as well as the famous “Waiters’ Race,” the Kids’ Corner–complete with a petting zoo, and cooking demonstrations by some of Charleston’s finest chefs.

The Taste will now offer a wider selection of specialty and import beers, as well as a Taste of Charleston gift shop hosted by Charleston Cooks!, where guests may purchase retail items from participating restaurateurs. Guests can also enjoy sounds from the local favorite, Eastcoast Party Band.

Tickets for the Taste Iron Chef Competition and the Taste of the Arts will be $10 a piece and can be purchased by calling the GCRA office at 843-577-4030. Advance tickets for the 28th “Taste of Charleston” at Boone Hall will sell for $10.00 and day-of tickets can be purchased at the gate for $12.00. Food tickets will be sold in $1.00 increments at the event. Tickets for Sunday’s main event will be available at all Charleston area Applebee’s Restaurants, the downtown Charleston Area Visitors Bureau, or by visiting
