Georgia Birding Festival on Jekyll Island

Georgia’s coast is throbbing with thousands of feeding birds and butterflies and other unique coastal
wildlife. Experience this drama together with outdoors enthusiasts expected at Georgia’s Colonial Coast
Birding & Nature Festival held on Jekyll Island October 9-13, 2008. The sixth annual festival offers a variety of entertainment and educational activities including a keynote speech by Pete Dunne, internationally renowned birdwatcher and author of numerous birding guides. On Saturday, October 11, a Nature Day event is planned for youngsters and families. A variety of field trips and seminars will highlight coastal Georgia’s abundant natural beauty and wildlife. The Jekyll Island Convention Center will serve as the hub for festival activities, and field trip excursions will include many of the Georgia Department of Natural
Resources’ (DNR) Colonial Coast Birding Trail sites.

Greek Festival in St. Augustine, Florida

The Annual Greek Festival hosted by Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, St. Augustine, FL will be held October 10th-12th at the Special Events Field on Castillo Dr. downtown St. Augustine adjacent to the Visitor’s Center. The festival offers visitors a chance to enter a virtual Greek village with all its sights and sounds. Enjoy traditional Greek foods and beverages like mouth watering spanakopita or baklava. The classic sound of the bouzouki will have you tapping your toes and your eyes will feast on the vibrant colors of the costumed Greek dancers.
Festival hours are 11 a.m. – 9 p.m. Friday and Saturday and from 12 pm. – 6 p.m. on Sunday. Admission is only $2.00 for adults and free for those 16 and under. For more information call 904-829-0504 or visit www.stauggreekfest.com.

The 27th Savannah Jazz Festival, September 20 – 28, 2008

The nine-day Savannah Jazz Festival is one of the largest and most popular of the free Savannah festivals. It returns to Savannah for the 27th time and takes place Sept 20th -28th.
The Savannah Jazz Festival, celebrates jazz offers all types of jazz, from Dixieland, traditional swing, straight-ahead and bop to melodic standards, and funky down-home “gutbucket” blues.

Celebration of Hope, kicks off the festival on Saturday night (Sept 20). It is a Jazz Concert-Wine Tasting event to raise money for the Backus Children’s Hospital. Ticket Required. Call: 912-350-8194 for more information.
