6th Annual Labor Day Weekend Catfish Festival in Kingsland
If you want to experience a festival in true Southern Style, how about the traditional Catfish Festival in Kingsland taking place on Labor Day weekend? This festival serves up southern-fried catfish with a side of country music. Kingsland, Georgia’s 25th Annual Labor Day Weekend Catfish Festival which runs from Saturday, August 30th thru Monday, September 1st in historic, downtown Kingsland, Georgia.

Beaufort International Chalk Festival – South Carolina

Nationally-known master chalk artist Lee Jones from Orlando will be featured at the festival on Saturday Nov 1, 2008 . Lee will also conduct a FREE Street Painting Workshop two weeks prior to the festival.

Competition Categories:
· Students (ages 16+): three scholarships to school of choice

· Community Artist (15+):
1st Place ~ $250 ~ sponsored by Carol Madeja
2nd Place ~ $100 ~ sponsored by Bruce Doneff
3rd Place ~ $50 ~ sponsored by Nancy Pollock

· School Teams (elementary & middle/1 teacher & 4 students): three classroom art supply funds

· People’s Choice: $500 prize sponsored by The Gallery, & cover image on ACBC’s award-winning print publication ArtNews.

Beach Boogie and Barbeque Festival in Myrtle Beach, SC

This is the ultimate labor day weekend celebration with two days of live concerts. The Beach Boogie and BBQ festival is also home the official barbeque competition of South Carolina and includes a competitive eating BBQ Sandwich Eating Championship. You can also take a free boat ride on the lake, participate in a 5K run or visit the Kids Zone with lots of rides and games. Grand Park across from The Market Common

Gullah/Geechee Artisans Reconnect Culture Through Crafts

The Gullah/Geechee Nation International Music & Movement Festivalâ„¢ brings together authentic Gullah/Geechee artists from North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, and Florida in a major showcase of the artistic skills of Gullah/Geechees that teach how their visual arts, music, dances, and songs connect to their ancestry in Africa. Over the course of three days in historic Charleston, SC in the Gullah/Geechee Nation, people will be able to purchase traditional items and participate in a number of performances and interactive educational workshops. The events will be at different locations on Friday, August 22, 2008. However, the main events will be held Saturday, August 23, 2008 and Sunday, August 24, 2008 at the Charleston Maritime Center at 10 Wharfside Drive from Noon to 7 pm.
