On the scenic shores of Alhambra Hall overlooking the beautiful Charleston, SC harbor, the Town of Mt. Pleasant will honor the 21st anniversary of a unique shrimping festival that attracts thousands of visitors each year. The 21st Annual Town of Mt. Pleasant Blessing of the Fleet & Seafood Festival Presented by Lucey Mortgage Corporation will take place on Sunday, April 27 from 11:30 a.m. – 5 p.m. This highly-anticipated event celebrates the Mt. Pleasant shrimping industry and features local shrimp boat captains partaking in an annual pre-season tradition – the blessing of the shrimp fleet. As one of Mt. Pleasant’s largest tourist events, the festival attracted 10,000 to 12,000 people from across the southeast last year. Witness a ceremony that dates back hundreds of years as those that take to the sea, in commercial and pleasure craft alike, receive a blessing from the Bishop of the Diocese of St. Augustine. The event draws thousands on Palm Sunday to watch as watercraft from trawlers and yachts to sailboats and motor craft; all decorated with flags and bunting, receive this special blessing. The 2008 Jacksonville Boat Show is, February 8-10, 2008 at the Prime Osborn Convention Center.Thirty of the region’s leading dealers will be on-site to showcase a multitude of boats featuring over 85 boat lines. Attendees will have the opportunity to see a large variety of marine products and services as well as hundred of boats all under one roof.Boating enthusiasts will agree that this Show has “something for everyone.†Kids can learn from fishing experts during the “Hook the Futures†Kids’ Fishing Clinic. Captain Don Dingman will teach the ethics and basics of fishing. Three thousand dollars worth of prizes will be given away at each clinic. Saturday, February 9: 11 am, 2pm, 4pm; Sunday, February 10; 1pm & 3pm.Jax4kids.com will host the Underwater Kids Pavilion where kids can create “make and take†crafts and other nautical themed games and activities. Visit the Waters Edge Mermaid from 1pm-3pm on Saturday.
