NOAA’s Fisheries Service today announced a new rule to lower significantly the fishing quotas for sandbar and porbeagle sharks in order to rebuild these depleted species. NOAA will also implement new regional quotas for the other large coastal sharks.

July 4th Boat Parade at High Tide – Murrells Inlet, SC
There’s nothing more patriotic than seeing a line of decorated boats cruising down the creek for the Murrells Inlet Fourth of July parade. The boats will be decorated according to the theme (this years theme is; “Freedom is Great in 2008”) and parade around the inlet starting at 10 am at high tide.
Best spots to view the parade: Murrells Inlet Marshwalk, Capt. Dick’s Marina, Belin Memorial United Methodist Church, and Nance’s Restaurant and Hot Fish Club. Register at Capt. Dick’s Marina, Booty’s and Garden City Realty. Fireworks in the Inlet begin at 10 pm. The display can be seen from all vantage points on the inlet shores.

River Rally Poker Run – Jacksonville, Florida
Some of the fastest boats in the country will be at the Jacksonville Landing on Saturday for the fundraiser, the River Rally Poker Run. The best time to see the fast boats take off is Saturday, at 9:30 am. The start is at 10:30 am. Watch the video below for all the details!
