July 20-22, 2007

Special Olympics Georgia athletes 22 years old and older from around the state will compete to be the best bowlers in the Masters Bowling Tournament July 20-22 in Savannah . This is the first of three years the tournament will be in Savannah! The tournament will be held at AMF Savannah Lanes and AMF Victory Lanes in Savannah. Opening Ceremony will be July 21 and medals will be given throughout the weekend.
This event is a highlight for older athletes. Opportunities for such interaction and the development of social relationships are not as easy for the older athletes as it is for the school aged athletes. Special Olympics Georgia competitions are one of the few places that older people with intellectual disabilities can compete in a high quality sports competition, interact with their peers, and experience new places.
In general, participation in Special Olympics events, offers opportunities to build self-awareness, teamwork and discipline
– which are all important skills for jobs and independent living.

It is specifically organized for Masters Level athletes (athletes who are age 22 and older) and provides them the opportunity to develop friendships with people their own age over the course of the weekend.
