Chazzfest in Charleston, South Carolina

August 28, 2007 by Susanne Talentino

Chazzfest in Charleston, South CarolinaThe Charleston Music & Heritage Festival, better known as ChazzFest will be held September 22, 2007, and will feature a diverse schedule of musical genres and artists playing on four stages throughout the grounds of the Family Circle Tennis Center on Daniel Island. Visit www.chazzfest.com for more information.

“Consistent with the philosophy we established last year, we’re bringing an eclectic mix of artists, while celebrating our roots.” said ChazzFest promoter and partner Riddick Lynch. “Even though we set the bar high in our inaugural year, we feel this lineup is stronger in terms of depth and breadth. We’re encouraging everyone to come early and stay late.”

Kicking off the Festival will be Ann Caldwell and the Magnolia Singers, a Charleston institution with music from the roots of African-American Gospel music. Closing the Festival will be the co-headliners – jazz icon Branford Marsalis and funk / R&B legends Kool and the Gang.

In addition to those acts, the lineup for ChazzFest will feature: New Orleans jazz / funk rockers Galactic, reggae pioneer Toots & The Maytals, gospel star Dottie Peoples, alt-country rock act SonVolt, north Florida’s swamp boogie kings JJ Grey & Mofro, bluegrass stalwarts Seldom Scene, New Orleans’ hip-hop influenced Soul Rebels Brass Band and top sacred-steel ensemble The Lee Boys. Beach music again will be well represented by heavyweights Chairmen of the Board and The Embers. Rounding out the bill will be local acts Quiana Parler (of American Idol fame) & Friends, Uncle Mingo and Davis Coen.

Tickets go on sale on Saturday, April 7 and will be available at select TicketMaster locations, on-line at www.ticketmaster.com, through the Family Circle Tennis Center and by phone at 843-554-6060. Advanced ticket prices are $75 for reserved seats in the lower bowl of the Stadium Court Stage, $50 for center upper deck reserved seats and $35 for General Admission tickets. Advanced tickets for children ages 6-12 are $5, with children under age 6 admitted free.

Day-of event tickets will increase to $50 for General Admission tickets, $10 for children, $100 for lower bowl reserved and $75 for upper deck reserved, subject to availability.

The festival is produced by Charleston-based FishBait Festivals and Events. The company is comprised of three partners: Rick Jones, President of FishBait Marketing, Rob Lamble of Ear for Music and Riddick Lynch of Shoreline Productions.
