St. Joseph’s/Candler presents the annual St. Vincent’s Historic Tour of Homes & Tea to benefit the preservation of the of the 1845 Convent of St. Vincent de Paul. St. Vincent’s Academy has enjoyed an enduring relationship with St. Joseph’s since 1875 when the Sisters of Mercy established St. Joseph’s Hospital in downtown Savannah.
On October 20, 2007, the Sisters will open their Convent home to the public for touring and for tea. Docents will greet you and give the history of the building and some of the more interesting furnishings and art. In addition to the Convent, there will be eight private homes in the Historic District whose owners will graciously open their doors for the tour. This is the only tour of homes scheduled for the fall season in Savannah.
The centerpiece of the tour is the elegant tea which will be served on the grounds of the Convent and the Academy. Students will serve a delicate repast of tea, homemade confections and traditional tea sandwiches while guests relax and enjoy a break.
Come see for yourself why native Savannahians and visitors alike say this event is “the best tour in Savannah.â€
