on Sunday, October 28

The Jewish Educational Alliance will present the 2007 Jerusalem Concert for Peace, which is free and open to the public, during Mickve Israel’s 19th Annual Shalom Y’all Jewish Food Festival on Sunday, October 28 at 2 p.m. This family-friendly event, which will take place at the fountain at Forsyth Park, will feature a special live performance by Israeli musical sensation Shalom Zohar and the Desert Blossom Ensemble.

Zohar is widely known for his diverse vocal repertoire, which ranges from traditional Klezmer music to contemporary rhythm and blues, and incorporates Middle Eastern and Asian influences. A much-anticipated singer, Zohar has performed at top international music festivals and has collaborated with some of Israel’s top musicians, including Yaaki Levy and Eilon Turjeman. He delighted audiences at the Jewish Music Festival in New York and recently completed a successful East Coast tour.

“The concert serves as a tribute to Israel’s desire for peace,” said Eshel Herskovitz, Interim Executive Director of the JEA. “We are thrilled and honored to bring such a talented Israeli performer to Savannah for the very first time. I’m confident that audiences will appreciate his stunning vocal abilities and enjoy the opportunity to hear one of Israel’s rising stars live in concert.”

The annual Jerusalem Concert for Peace is an added highlight of the 2007 Jewish Food Festival, which is organized by Congregation Mickve Israel and attracts thousands of visitors each year to sample traditional Jewish cuisine, ranging from noodle kugel to cheese blintzes. For more information on the Jewish Food Festival, go to: www.mickveisrael.org or call 912-233-1547 Ext 21. To read the previous post about the festival, please click here.

The Jerusalem Concert for Peace is funded in part by the City of Savannah’s Cultural Affairs Commission, and is an inclusive, community-oriented event.
