Don’t miss this annual St Augustine tradition. Carry a candle and follow the torchlight parade from the Government House, around the Old City and back to the Plaza to hear the governor’s proclamation. Watch soldiers fire their muskets in a volley of joy salute to the season. The Grande Illumination Ceremony, beginning at 8 p.m., is an impressive pageant of color and light that depicts the 1782 arrival of British soldiers and loyalist civilians who fled from Charleston to St. Augustine to escape from advancing American troops. For the grand finale, residents and visitors sing Christmas carols in the Plaza de la Constitucion.
