Southern Living magazine’s January edition features its Readers’ Choice Awards, in which several honors go to the Charleston, SC area. In competition with other southern destinations, Charleston was once again named Favorite Southern City by readers of the widely popular magazine. Honors also included top tier billing for best shopping.
By mail and by fax, readers sent Southern Living their list of favorite places in the South. More than 18,000 readers cast their ballots in 24 different categories including hotels, inns, gardens, zoos, getaways, restaurants, seafood, and more. Destinations as well as individual businesses were recognized.
Several local businesses also captured awards. Magnolia’s Restaurant was named #1 Splurge Restaurant while Hyman’s Seafood took took the top spot in Seafood Restaurants with Hank’s coming in second in the same category.
Southern Living magazine is published monthly and has a circulation of nearly 2.5 million. The magazine is designed to appeal to the tastes of today’s Southerners. Content emphasizes developments in the area of travel, recreation, homes and building, gardening, recipes, and entertaining ideas. www.southernliving.com
