Orange County Choppers (OCC) To Take Part In “Australia Day Chall

January 12, 2008 by Susanne Talentino

JACKSONVILLE, Fla., January 10, 2008 – Pre-game entertainment at the “Australia Day Challenge” will now include a special presentation from the stars of the Discovery Channel series American Chopper. In addition, local television sports director Sam Kouvaris and a dream child from Dreams Come True will also be on hand to help with the presentation. The “Australia Day Challenge”, a historic meeting of the Leeds Rhinos and the South Sydney Rabbitohs, is hosted by the Jacksonville Axemen and JEDC Sports & Entertainment and will be held at UNF’s Hodges Stadium on January 26, 2008.  (Click here to read our previous post about Australia Day Challenge) Russell Crowe and his team, the South Sydney Rabbitohs, recently hosted the American Chopper crew while they were in Australia doing research for the Australian-themed motorcycle. The OCC team, including the famed Teutuls, will travel to Jacksonville to take part in the “Australia Day Challenge” and, prior to the game, will present a thank you gift to Crowe and the South Sydney Rabbitohs for Russell’s hospitality to the Teutuls.

“The parallel of rugby and the OCC cannot be overlooked,” said event organizer Spinner Howland.  “It’s easy to make the comparison between the sport of Rugby League, known as “The Toughest Sport on Earth”, and the OCC’s tough guys and tough bikes.”

The current European Superleague Champions, the Leeds Rhinos, will take on the South Sydney Rabbitohs in Hodges Stadium at UNF on Saturday, January 26, 2008. Fans from at least nine countries and 41 of the United States are attending the game, which also has been added as an official event of the “G’day USA” weeklong celebration that showcases all things Australian in the USA. The week commemorates Australia’s birthday.

Dreams Come True is the First Coast’s only locally based nonprofit organization dedicated to fulfilling the dreams of children battling life-threatening illnesses.
