Savannah’s Cultural Arts Theatre to Present
“A Midnight Cry: The Underground Railroad to Freedom”

SAVANNAH, Ga. –  The City of Savannah’s Cultural Arts Theatre announced that it will be presenting its production of A Midnight Cry: The Underground Railroad to Freedom Feb. 22, 24, 29 and Mar. 1 and 2 at the Black Box at S.P.A.C.E. The play is being presented in conjunction with the 19th annual Savannah Black Heritage Festival.
Written by NEA Literature Fellowship recipient James DeVita, this moving historical drama is inspired by the true story of a young slave who journeyed to freedom through the fabled Underground Railroad. The play recounts the life of Lida Anderson, played by Brandyn Poole, as she embarks on a journey to flee the brutality and oppression of plantation life in Missouri.
“We selected A Midnight Cry because it is infused with uplifting spirituals and a message of hope and inspiration,” said DJ Queenan, the City of Savannah’s Theatre Arts Coordinator and director for this production. “This is a compelling drama with historical importance for both children and adults.”
S.P.A.C.E. is located at 9 W. Henry St. Performances will take place Feb. 22, 29 and Mar. 1 at 8 p.m.; Feb. 24 at 3 and 8 p.m; and Mar. 2 at 3 p.m. Tickets are $10 general admission; $7 seniors and students. This production is appropriate for audiences ages 10 and over. For reservations and information, contact 912-651-6783 or visit www.savannahga.gov/arts.
