SCAD presents adaptation of “Oliver Twist” – Savannah, Georgia

February 22, 2008 by Susanne Talentino

SAVANNAH, Ga. — The Savannah College of Art and Design School of Performing Arts presents “Oliver Twist,” by Charles Dickens, with a new adaptation by Neil Bartlett, March 6-9, Trustees Theater, 216 Broughton St.

Bartlett’s new version of the classic tale is 24 scenes of songs and tableaux performed by a small company of actors who play multiple roles, bringing to life the dark underbelly of Victorian London in this groundbreaking, dramatic new play.

This production features original music by SCAD professor and director of the Honeybees singing ensemble, David Alan Bunn, and casts performing arts professor Laurence Ballard as Fagan. Ballard is an award-winning actor whose professional career spans 150 productions in theaters across the country.

“I am very excited to direct this fantastic new adaptation of Oliver Twist,” said SCAD performing arts professor Sharon Ott. “Bartlett’s version is true to the original but brings the story fully into our century. It is swift, theatrical and thrilling.”

Performances are at 8 p.m, with a 3 p.m. matinee on Sunday. Tickets can be purchased online at www.scadboxoffice.com, by phone at 912.525.5050, or at the SCAD box office, 216 E. Broughton St. Admission is $10 for the general public, $5 for students, seniors and military, and free for students, faculty and staff with a valid SCAD ID.

Craig Morgan at the Lucas – Savannah, Georgia

February 22, 2008 by Susanne Talentino

Craig Morgan is country music’s stealth star. He’s had back-to-back #1 singles, massive radio airplay–including country’s biggest hit of 2005, solid album sales and a belated nomination in 2006 as the Academy of Country Music’s new male vocalist of the year.

Morgan likens his career to a catapult that has been stretched all the way back through hard touring, steady radio airplay and media exposure and is now poised to heave that career forward with projectile force. He has two secret weapons in his arsenal. As a singer, Morgan has a clearly identifiable voice. As a songwriter, he displays a distinct point of view.

Tickets are $45 and $32, available now by calling 912-525-5050
