Brookgreen Gardens Celebrates 2008 as the Year of the Frog!

February 25, 2008 by Susanne Talentino

Murrells Inlet, SC– Beginning on Leap Day, Friday, February 29th  and lasting throughout the year, zoos and aquariums across the country will join the AZA and celebrate the Year of the Frog to promote amphibian conservation. In support of this effort Brookgreen Gardens’ Lowcountry Zoo, the only AZA  accredited zoo on the coast of the Carolinas, will host a special frog program at the E. Craig Wall, Jr. Lowcountry Center on Friday, February 29th from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. “The purpose of the program is to make people aware that amphibians and frogs are declining in the wild and that there are things people can do to help them to survive,” explained Andrea DeMuth, Brookgreen’s Curator of Animals. “We will have materials to hand out about the plight of amphibians  and have two aquariums, one with tree frogs and one with anoles for visitors to see.”
Brookgreen Gardens, a National Historic Landmark and non-profit organization, is located on U.S. 17 between Myrtle Beach and Pawleys Island, South Carolina, and is open to the public daily. For more information, consult our web site at www.brookgreen.org  or call 800-849-1931.
