The 8th Annual Kiawah Island Art and House Tour will take place on Friday, April 11 from 2pm – 6pm on beautiful Kiawah Island. The tour features five exceptional homes with views of the salt marsh, ocean, ponds and lagoons that showcase spectacular private art collections. Gibbes, etc., a group of Kiawah Island women dedicated to supporting the Gibbes Museum of Art, has produced this event since the group was founded in 2001.
Five exceptional homes and art collections have been selected to provide a variety of experiences (homes are numbered with corresponding photos attached):
1. A live oak lined driveway leads to this secluded shingle style home with a distinctive old world feel. The home and separate guest quarters have unique features including a wood burning oven, reclaimed flooring, stained glass, fossil embedded stone work and an art collection which includes works by Chinese, African and American artists. Spanning the rear of the house, mahogany doors reveal serene lagoon views.
2. Nestled at the edge of the marsh, this Lowcountry home has a true sense of place with echoes of local 18th century plantation houses and hints of Creole style. This gracious, traditional home is the perfect setting to highlight the owners’ Lowcountry art collection.
3. This shingle style home is tucked into the dense maritime forest of Kiawah Island. The muted color palette of the exterior blends with the natural tones of the landscape and highlights the home’s unique architectural elements. Lovely screened porches and decks provide expansive views of the beautiful salt marsh. A collection of contemporary art is an added treat.
4. This magnificent shingle style house, with inverted floor plan and expansive porches and decks, affords incomparable views of ocean, marsh, Ibis pond, and the Ocean Course. The spacious entryway is flanked by twin staircases which lead to the gracious 2nd and 3rd floor great room and living areas designed to highlight an eclectic and international, contemporary art collection.
5. Located on a small pond and situated at the end of an evergreen-filled drive, this secluded Cassique Garden Cottage reflects care and craftsmanship consistent with the theme of this unique neighborhood. The owners have incorporated various types of wood and stone with styling elements from the days of Lutyens and Voysey to house their collections of Charleston art, European furniture and Oriental rugs. The result is comfortable elegance with lots of Lowcountry charm inside and out.
