Don’t miss this spectacular event. History will be made in Charleston when star dancers from the New York City Ballet perform for the first time in the city.
They will be performing three major pieces of renowned choreography. The Donizetti Variations; created for “Salute to Italy,” a New York City Ballet program celebrating the 100th anniversary of Italy’s unification. The Barber Violin Concerto; contrasts classical composure and modern sensibility. Western Symphony; Set on a rugged Old West street populated by cowboys and dance hall girls, Western Symphony nevertheless is very much a classical work.
The performance is being produced with the partnership of the Charleston Symphony Orchestra, the Gibbes Museum of Art and Crew Carolina.
The evening is being presented with the full orchestration and participation of the Charleston Symphony Orchestra. Guest soloist for the Barber Violin Concerto will be Yuriy Bekker the newly appointed concertmaster of the Charleston Symphony. The gala is being hosted by the Gibbes Museum of Art, and Crew Carolina, a Charleston area restaurant and catering company.
Patron level sponsors will be treated to a pre-performance champagne reception at the Sottile Theatre. Following the performance, the Gibbes Museum will host an extravagant cocktail party where performers and patrons will toast the evening over drinks and hors d’oeuvres.
Proceeds from the Charleston performance will go to the Charleston Symphony Orchestra, the Gibbes Museum of Art and the University of South Carolina Dance Program.
