Civil War Encampment – Jekyll Island, Georgia

April 30, 2008 by Susanne Talentino

Visit military living history re-enactors with the Armory Guards as they recreate a Civil War encampment near where the original military units once set up their quarters. Throughout the course of the demonstration, the Armory Guards intend to accurately and respectfully portray the experience of the common American Civil War infantry soldier in Georgia.

Come discover more about Civil War soldiers at the Horton House Historic Site from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm this Saturday, May 3 and from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm this Sunday, May 4, 2008.

Discuss battle tactics with the soldiers at camp. Watch them practice their drills and march along with them. Witness them mount guard, fire muskets, and patrol the camp.

Admission is free. This event is sponsored by the Armory Guards and hosted by the Jekyll Island Museum. For more information contact the Jekyll Island Museum, at (912) 635-4036.
