Antarctica at IMAX World Golf Hall of Fame

May 25, 2008 by Susanne Talentino

Cool Off This Summer with “Antarctica” at the World Golf Hall of Fame IMAX® Theater

St. Augustine, Fla. (May 24, 2008) – The World Golf Hall of Fame IMAX® Theater will feature a classic IMAX film, “Antarctica,” beginning Friday, June 6 – a film sure to give audiences a chill in the heat of summer. The film will run at 11 a.m., 2 p.m. and 6:15 p.m. Friday and Saturday.

“There are some specific IMAX films audiences continue to enjoy year after year,” said Jack Peter, Sr. Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of the World Golf Hall of Fame & IMAX Theater. “‘Antarctica’ is one such film that remains entertaining to viewers of all ages and offers a strong educational component, qualities that are very important in our theater’s programming.”

“Antarctica” follows man’s thirst for exploration to the highest, driest, windiest, coldest continent on Earth. Audiences will marvel as they take a harrowing helicopter ride through icy crevasses and towering pinnacles; dive with the first humans to swim through a crystalline cavern submerged within a glacier; drill through centuries-old ice to unlock the secrets of Antarctica’s past; and join a company of penguins in a graceful underwater ballet.

“To give you the feeling that you are ‘really there’ we have to actually BE there…we cannot give you the feeling that you are falling into a crevasse unless we really do fall into that crevasse,” said “Antarctica” director John Weiley. “We do sometimes look around and say to ourselves, ‘This is completely insane…,’ but as any war photographer will tell you, looking through a lens makes everything seem less dangerous.”

The film creates a sensation of truly being on the continent – a remarkable film experience where, through the heartfelt words of early Antarctica explorer Robert Scott, audiences can re-live the brutal hardships, wonders and isolation of the first men on this magnificent frontier.

“Antarctica” is 40 minutes in length and will play at the IMAX Theater through September.
