The American Revolution Comes to Middleton Place – Charleston, SC

June 30, 2008 by Susanne Talentino

During the Fourth of July weekend, you can see the American Revolution come to life at Middleton Place. This is a great way to learn about our past, and to have fun with the whole family. Celebrate Independence Day by coming to the home of Arthur Middleton, a signer of the Declaration of Independence. Visitors to Middleton Place National Historic Landmark on July 4, 5 and 6 will have the opportunity to experience life during the American Revolution with the help of re-enactors.
The weekend begins on July 4th with a wreath laying ceremony at the tomb of Arthur Middleton. Revolutionary War re-enactors from the Second South Carolina Regiment will lay the wreath in commemoration of Arthur Middleton’s service and dedication to the founding of our country. The re-enactors camp will be open for visitors from 9:00 am – 5:00 pm on Saturday, July 5th and from 9:00 am – 3:00 pm on Sunday, July 6th.
Visitors may enjoy numerous educational programs and activities including cooking and camp life demonstrations, military tactical demonstrations, formal readings of the Declaration of Independence, and a Sunday morning church service at 10:00 a.m.

All 4th of July weekend activities are complimentary with regular admission: $25 adults, $5 for children ages 7-15. For additional information, visit the website at www.middletonplace.org or call (843) 556-6020.
