The Lowcountry’s First Lady of Jazz Performs in Summerville, South Carolina
Summerville D.R.E.A.M. hosts a free community concert featuring Ann Caldwell on Thursday, July 17 from 6:30 to 8 p.m. on Hutchinson Square (Summerville’s historic downtown square). Ann Caldwell, known in the Low Country as the first lady of jazz, works full time as a jazz singer, jazz vocalist, blues singer and musical producer.
Credits include performances for Piccolo Spoleto for the last eight years. She has been the featured vocalist with the Charleston Symphony Orchestra and the Gospel Choir with the CSO. She has appeared in Porgy and Bess, Clay Rice’s musical production Lowcountry Legends and has studied with June Bonner, of the Metropolitan Opera.
The concert begins at 6:30 p.m. The public is invited and admission is free. Bring a beach blanket or a lawn chair and enjoy! Refreshments will be available. No alcoholic beverages permitted.
The concert is a part of the DREAMfest series held on Third Thursdays in Downtown Summerville from May to September, 5 to 8 p.m. DREAMfest, a gathering of exhibits, entertainment, refreshments and featured artists, includes an Art Walk featuring local artists on Short Central and a free community concert in the 2008 concert series on Hutchinson Square. Shops and restaurants will be open until 8 p.m. and civic organizations will be encouraged to have booths around the downtown district. Remaining dates include: August 21 and September 18.
