Summerville D.R.E.A.M. Hosts Free Concert Featuring Bobby Alvarez

August 15, 2008 by Susanne Talentino

Lead Singer of Plane Jane, one of Charleston’s favorite groups!
August 18, 2008, Summerville, SC – Join us for some summertime fun as Summerville D.R.E.A.M. hosts a free community concert featuring Bobby Alvarez. The concert will be held on Thursday, August 21 from 6:30 to 8 p.m. on Hutchinson Square in Historic Downtown Summerville.

Bobby Alvarez has been a staple in the music scene in Charleston for over 35 years. Originally from New York, Bobby is a percussionist as well as a vocalist and bass player who brings his unique tenor voice to anything he does. He is known in town these days as being the lead singer for popular party band Plane Jane and as being a lead vocalist for the Charleston Christmas Special at the music hall. Enjoy a night of Beach music, R&B and Motown!

The concert begins at 6:30 p.m. The public is invited and admission is free. Bring a beach blanket or a lawn chair and enjoy! Refreshments will be provided by First Citizens Bank. No alcoholic beverages permitted.

The concert is a part of the DREAMfest series held on Third Thursdays in Downtown Summerville from May to September, 5 to 8 p.m. DREAMfest, a gathering of exhibits, entertainment, refreshments and featured artists, includes an Art Walk featuring local artists on Short Central and a free community concert in the 2008 concert series on Hutchinson Square. Shops and restaurants will be open until 8 p.m. and civic organizations will be encouraged to have booths around the downtown district. We only have one more planned this year on Thursday, Sept. 18. Common Ground, one of Charleston’s longest running bluegrass bands, will perform. Don’t miss it!
