Teen Aces Golf Tournament and Helps Food Bank

August 15, 2008 by Susanne Talentino

SAVANNAH – Drew Aimone of Savannah was crowned the 2008 Champion of the Savannah-Hilton Head Amateur Match Play at Crosswinds Golf Club on Sunday, August 10th. Aimone, a seventeen-year-old golfer from Savannah Christian Preparatory School, defeated Bill Jones of Conyers, Georgia during morning matches 3 and 2, and went on to defeat Greg England of Savannah in the Championship Match Up. Pierce Markowitz of Savannah won the first flight, defeating Savannah Christian Preparatory School’s Chris Jodis. Aimone, who was ranked sixth for the tournament, has secured the top position for next year’s tournament.

The three-day tournament attracted collegiate golfers, a Chatham County Amateur champion, a Georgia Senior champion, and a former PGA Head Professional, all of whom competed not only to become the tournament champ, but also to be contenders in the fight against hunger. Proceeds of the tournament benefit America’s Second Harvest of Coastal Georgia and will assist the organization in providing food relief to at-risk children, families, and senior citizens throughout southeastern Georgia.
