September in Coastal Georgia

September 10, 2009 by Susanne Talentino

What’s happening in September in coastal Georgia for the rest of the month? We came up with the following list.

Lucas Theatre Open House
Saturday, September 12, 2009

Lucas Theatre SavannahStop by the Lucas Theatre during the annual open house on Saturday, September 12th, from 5 p.m. – 8 p.m. Take a self-guided tour, enjoy some popcorn, view historical information, and check out our upcoming season. This event is free event.

If you want to come back later, there’s a screening at 8 p.m. of the movie Tropic Thunder from 2008. The movie stars Ben Stiller (who also directed), Robert Downey, Jr., Jack Black, Matthew McConaughey, Tom Cruise, and Nick Nolte.

Visit the website for more info.

Jekyll Island’s Shrimp & Grits: The Wild Georgia Shrimp Festival
September 18 – 20, 2009

Jekyll Island is always one of our favorite places to visit, and especially when there’s a festival.   The Shrimp & Grits Festival is about two Southern favorites – Georgia shrimp and grits.  This weekend is packed with food, fun, entertainment, shrimp eating contest, cooking demonstrations and much more.

28th Annual Savannah Jazz Festival

September 20 – 27, 2009

If you like jazz, this is the place to be in September. Every year the Jazz Festival takes over Savannah with a celebration of all genres of jazz, from Dixieland, traditional swing, straight-ahead and bop to melodic standards, Latin rhythms and funky down-home “gutbucket” blues. The festival features the best in international, national, regional and local jazz talent. There are many live performances, jam session and also film screenings. Free and open to the public.
