US Coast Guard Band Concert – St Augustine, Florida

The US Coast Guard Band performs at Anastasia Baptist Church at three o’clock on January 27th. This free concert will feature many of the Band’s patriotic songs plus other popular music from Gershwin, American Landscapes and some well-known Dixie Land Jazz.

Volodymyr Vynnytsky – Ukraine performs at Sottile Theatre on January 15, 2008
A Charleston favorite through his appearances during Piccolo Spoleto and Charleston Music Fest, Volodymyr Vynnitsky is a laureate of the “Marguerite Long-Jacques Thibaud” International Piano Competition in Paris. He has performed with the leading orchestras of Ukraine, as well as with the Poznan Symphony Orchestra in Poland, the Paris Radio and Television Orchestra, the Scottsdale Symphony Orchestra, the Johannesburg Philharmonic and many others. Vynnitsky has performed at Carnegie Hall, the Great Hall at the Moscow Conservatory, Paris’s Theatre Champs d’Elysees, and St. John’s Smith Square in London. Call 843-953-6575

Saint Patrick’s Day Celebration – Charleston, South Carolina

The Anicent Order of Hibernians, Ladies Ancient Order of Hiberians, South Carolina
Irish Historical Society and Knights of Columbus host this annual celebration in honor/memory of Saint Patrick, Ireland’s Patron Saint.

Schedule of Festivities (to be held in Downtown Charleston):

March 13 – Irish Variety Show @ 7 PM @ the Sottile Theatre, 44 George Street (between King and Saint Philip Streets). Sponsored by the South Carolina Irish Historical Society as a South Carolina Irish Memorial Benefit, this year’s show will feature the Charleston Men’s Chorus, Na Fidleiri (Charleston’s Young Irish Fiddlers), etc. Tickets and information: (843) 556-3578/953-5623.

March 14 – Saint Patrick’s Day Mass @ a time to be announced @ the Saint Patrick’s Catholic Church, 134 Saint Philip Street (@ Radcliffe).

March 15 – Saint Patrick’s Day Parade, commencing @ 10 AM, and proceeding from Radcliffe to King, Broad and Legare Streets. Following the Parade will be the Irish Flag-Raising and related ceremonies @ 11:30 AM @ the Charleston City Hall, 80 Broad Street (@ Meetng). Also, @ 12:30 PM,
there will be an Irish (corned beef and cabbage) Luncheon (with live Irish entertainment) @ 12:30 PM @ the Knights of Columbus Hall, 143 Calhoun Street (between King and Meeting Streets, opposite Marion
Square).

Everyone, whether Irish or not, is cordially invited to these festivities.

Arbor Day Celebration – St Augustine, Florida

Come celebrate the trees of our city at Francis Field. The City of St. Augustine’s Annual Arbor Day Celebration will take place at Francis Field on Castillo Drive at noon on January 18th. There will be a tree planting and special guest, Smokey the Bear! Free saplings will be given out to those in attendance.
