U.S. Air Force Heritage Aire Celtic Ensemble in Downtown Summerville

Friday June 12th at 6 p.m. there is a free concert in Town Square featuring The U.S. Air Force Heritage Aire Celtic Ensemble. The Celtic Ensemble will delight crowds with a blend of contemporary music and traditional Celtic music. Performing on traditional instruments such as the Irish flute, tin whistles, button accordion and bodhran, the Celtic Ensemble is famous for their stunning musical talents.
The group recently deployed to the CENTAF area of responsibility and performed 60 concerts in 55 days around Southwest Asia and the Horn of Africa. As members of the CENTAF Band, the group raised the spirits of Joint Force members and coalition partners serving in the Global War on Terrorism. They also supported humanitarian efforts, bridging cultural divides and easing tensions with foreign nations through music.

This is the third year Summerville has hosted the U.S. Air Force musicians and Summerville D.R.E.A.M. plans to make it a permanent annual event.

Make a Scene Downtown Jacksonville, June 4th, 2009

The City of Jacksonville invites you to “Make A Scene Downtown” on Thursday, June 4 at a street festival on Bay Street (between Newnan and Ocean streets) featuring Happy Hour at the Ivy Ultra Bar beginning at 5:30 p.m. Entertainment by the George Aspinall Band and AIA, the official Jimmy Buffett Tribute Show will highlight the evening.

This Make A Scene Downtown! event will welcome the 2009 Jacksonville River Rally Charity Poker Run taking place June 4-7 on the downtown riverfront. Poker Run merchandise, and a Tiki Bar, which will benefit the American Lung Association, will be available for attendees.

National Running Day to Unite the Country Through Events and Activities from New York to San Diego on Wednesday, June 3

Major U.S. running organizations to host local events as part of national effort to get Americans moving.
New York, April 1, 2009—The United States running industry today announced an unprecedented unified effort to launch the inaugural National Running Day on Wednesday, June 3, to nationally and locally promote running as a healthy, easy, and accessible form of exercise. Across the country,
the day will celebrate the benefits of running as part of a healthy and active lifestyle aimed at combating some of today’s most pressing health issues.

Through a grassroots effort, the foremost road racing and track and field organizations from major U.S. cities—including New York, Boston, Chicago, Washington, D.C., Atlanta, Houston, Minneapolis/St.Paul, Little Rock, Denver, Eugene, and San Diego—in addition to national running organizations USA

runningTrack & Field and Running USA, are encouraging Americans of all ages and fitness levels to get out and run by hosting a variety of National Running Day activities, including professional athlete appearances, free running events, group runs, and clinics.This unified effort is aimed at encouraging people to lace up their shoes and invite a friend to join them in experiencing the simplicity and cost-effectiveness of running.

Running Is for Everyone
“Everyone can run. That’s the message of this day,” said New York Road Runners president and CEO Mary Wittenberg. “As an industry, we know first hand how great running is. Millions of Americans have discovered that running is an easy way to feel better, look better, and live better.”

Runners can join in the National Running Day festivities by simply going for a run on June 3, then logging on to the national website and social media resources at runningday.org to download an “I’m a Runner/I Ran Today” Facebook button, interact with other runners, and find complete information.
Resources available on the site will include information on local community events with running clubs and retailers, course-mapping tools, training tips, and other running-related information.
“This is a day to celebrate the most universal of all sports,” said USA Track & Field CEO Doug Logan. “By taking National Running Day into the virtual realm of social networking, we’re doing even more to expand that universe. You might be running toward a goal, running with a purpose, or even just running away from your problems. Any reason is a good reason to run, especially on National Running Day.”

Visit downtown Jacksonville for the monthly art walk on Wednesday June 3th, 2009. This event takes place the first Wednesday of the month from 5 pm – 9 pm, rain or shine.

Night at the Museum in Charleston, South Carolina

Ben Stiller is not the only one who can experience “Night at the Museum”. But instead of a battle at the Smithsonian it will be a “battle at Charleston Museum”. On June 5th you can participate in this real life adventure from 6:30 pm to 9:00 pm, if you dare.

When lights are out and the museum is empty, no joke, the whole museum comes to life.

Who knows, you might run into a band of pirates, bump into a unit of Revolutionary War soldiers, a Viking, George Washington, or even some wild animals! This event is for brave kids and adults only. We strongly recommend bringing your flash light, since it can come in handy and even double up as a weapon.

Museum curators and staff will share stories about the collections and maybe even entertain you with a tall tale or two. Visitors are encouraged to join in the fun by dressing as your favorite animal or in historical costume. I’ll have to remember to tell Joe about that, he loves dress up!
