Family Sleepover at South Carolina Aquarium – Charleston, SC

Stay cool and bug-free at Camp Carolina, where the great outdoors comes inside at the South Carolina Aquarium! Bring your sleeping bag, but leave the tents at home for this fun family sleepover. Spend an evening discovering the adventure and fun of Camp Carolina. Families can set up sleeping bags next to their favorite Aquarium exhibit and rise to a dolphin watch on the Riverside Terrace. Event includes fun educational programs just for kids, snacks and a continental breakfast in the morning.

The cost is $30 member adult, $40 non-member adult and $20 member child, $30 non-member child, ages 6 and up. The Aquarium requires one adult per two children attending this event. For more information call (843)577-FISH.

Farmers Market at Marion Square – Charleston, SC

Charleston Farmers Market operates every Saturday from 8:00am until 2:00 pm, from April 12 – December 21, 2008. A special Holiday Magic Market in Historic Charleston takes place during in December.

The Charleston Farmers Market takes place Saturday mornings from 8:00am until 2:00 pm in the Marion Square, between King and Meeting Streets at the edge of Calhoun Street. The beautiful park at Marion Square has long been the center of festivities in Charleston. The Farmers Market comes to life each Saturday morning and offers an abundance of the freshest local produce, plants, herbs and cut flowers. Bring the family to the park, enjoy a delicious breakfast, brunch or lunch while enjoying live entertainment.

The Farmers Market also offers an assortment of arts and crafts from talented local artisans. Charleston Farmers Market is produced by the City of Charleston Office of Cultural Affairs and is dedicated to the support and advocacy of Lowcountry Farmers and Growers.

Charleston Concert Association 2008-2009 Season: The World in Performance

Charleston, SC – May 13, 2008 – Charleston Concert Association (CCA) has announced the dates for its 2008-2009 concert series.  This year’s program, The World in Performance, includes a wide-range of performances including The Warsaw Philharmonic, Ballet Flamenco, Vienna Boys’ Choir Holiday Program, Joshua Bell, Aspen Santa Fe Ballet and Frederica Von Stade and Samuel Ramey.  Wynton Marsalis with Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra will be the featured artists at the Encore Event.  All shows begin at 8:00 p.m.

Lunch Time Concert at the JEA – Savannah, Georgia

The University of West Georgia Jazz Ensemble is a big band of nineteen musicians under the direction of  Dr. Daniel Bakos, professor of music at UWG (Carrollton). The ensemble performs big band jazz music of famous and historic bands such as Count Basie, Buddy Rich, Duke Ellington, Stand Kenton and more contemporary works from as Tom Kubis, Lew Anderson, John Fedchock, and others.  Chris Vadala, Vince DiMartino, Bobby Shew, Marvin Stamm, Lew Soloff, Joe Temperly, Rob McConnell, and Gary Foster are some of the well-known musicians who have played with the ensemble.

The ensemble performs extensively throughout the Southeast, toured Europe 2001, and currently is looking toward a second European tour.    The jazz ensemble hosts the annual Sunbelt Jazz Festival during April.  The Jazz Ensemble will present a concert, free to the public, at the Jewish Educational Alliance (5111 Abercorn Street) at 1:30 PM on Thursday, May 15th. The Mount Pleasant Farmers Market is the perfect place to buy fresh, locally grown produce while enjoying the afternoon with your loved ones. This family-friendly event has become a gathering place for locals. Plan to spend a couple of hours exploring our treasure trove of fruits, vegetables, flowers, preserves, dips, breads, pies, and numerous other delectable treats. Savor a fresh meal by one of our irresistible food vendors while enjoying live music. Also available for your assistance are the Clemson Extension Master Gardeners. These seasoned volunteers can help solve most gardening dilemmas. You’ll also find community information from the Town of Mount Pleasant and various other non-profit organizations. Make the Mount Pleasant Farmers Market a weekly affair!
