Lois Simon Story Time – Ponte Vedra

Ms. Simon will be reading the story MAC (The Story of a Happy Apple) at the Cultural Center during Saturday’s Beaches Gallery Tour at 11 a.m.
She will also have copies of her book to sign for the children and families that attend. Following the reading, Ms. Simon will be doing a pastel drawing activity with the children and their parents.

Cultural Center Artist Members will have an open house with display and sales of their original work during this special day.
Enjoy refreshments while viewing our Jay Shoots: Portraits exhibition in our galleries. There will also be art demonstrations in our workshop throughout the day!

Experience the joys of sheep and the crafts made from their wool during Sheep and Wool days at Middleton Place. See sheep dogs herding and sheep being sheared and bathed. Artisans will be dyeing, spinning, weaving and knitting with wool. Adults may participate in a wine and sheep cheese tasting while children enjoy fun activities making crafts out of wool. Charles Towne Landing Hosts Annual “Founders’ Day” Festival – Charleston, South Carolina

Several groups of re-enactors dressed in 17th-century costume will demonstrate an array of living history programs portraying the lifeways of the colonists including the firing of blackpowder cannons and muskets, as well as cooking and other daily chores crucial to the colony’s survival. They will take place inside the palisade wall that protected the colonists during Charles Towne’s earliest days. Since 2008 also marks the 75th anniversary of the establishment of South Carolina State Parks, a ceremony will be held at 1 p.m. honoring the state park legacy. Charles Towne Landing State Historic Site is located on Old Towne Road (S.C. 171), near exit 216-A off Interstate 26. Admission to the park is $5 for adults, $3.25 for South Carolina seniors, $3 for children ages 6 to 15 and free for children 5 and younger. Lowcountry Strawberry Festival at Boone Hall – Charleston, South Carolina

Strawberries…Strawberries…and more strawberries… are the centerpiece at Boone Hall Plantation for one of the most popular special events held in the Lowcountry every spring. The Lowcountry Strawberry Festival features a large variety of attractions and activities that are guaranteed fun for all ages. A Giant Ferris Wheel…a carousel…the unique Berry-Go-Round…jump castles…slides…and a carriage ride around the plantation…all are just a few of the amusements available for families to enjoy. There’s also music of all kinds, clowns, recipe and pie eating contests, and much much more. And no visit to Boone Hall during this festival would be complete without a chance for the family to pick their own strawberries from our U-Pick fields. Fears that Fortified Charles Towne
– Cannon Demonstration

During the early years of the settlement, the Charles Towne colonists faced several threats, especially from their primary enemy and colonial rival, the Spanish. The Spanish fleet at St. Augustine, Florida was within three days travel of the fledgling English colony. Charles Towne, “here settled in the very chaps of the Spaniard,” was a direct challenge to the claim of this disputed land. Following a review of Charles Towne’s fortifications and defenses, the program will culminate with the Charles Towne Militia living history team’s demonstration of 17th century artillery.
