Late Night Fridays on Broad Street – Charleston, South Carolina

From Friday Feb.1st and ongoing through August, the shops on Gallery Row will be open late nights on the First Friday of every month.

Each First Friday will have a theme, beginning with “Men’s Night Out” on Friday February 1st. Men’s Night Out features champagne and chocolates being served at each participating gallery. Many galleries will have special artwork, sales or promotions for Valentine’s Day at this event.

First Fridays events begin at 5:00 p.m. and galleries will remain open until 7:00 p.m., with some galleries open even later.

Participating galleries and shops include Coco Vivo, Edward Dare, Rivendell Woodworks & Gallery, Utopia, John Doyle Gallery, Ellis Nicholson Gallery, Ella Richardson Gallery, Mary Martin Gallery, Hamlet Fine Art Gallery, and The Martin Gallery.

Celebrate Gullah Heritage – Mount Pleasant, South Carolina

Celebrate Gullah Heritage! The National Park Service, in partnership with the Town of Mount Pleasant, is sponsoring a series of free cultural programs at Charles Pinckney National Historic Site every Saturday at 2:00 pm during February and March 2008.

Quilts of Nassau County – Amelia Island, Florida

The Fabric of Our Lives: Quilts of Nassau County, an exhibition of historical quilts presented by the Amelia Island Museum of History and the Amelia Island Quilt Guild, will run until February 28, 2008. If you are interested in quilting, don’t miss this interesting exhibit offering 15 amazing, historical quilts to view. Wimbledon Finalist Marion Bartoli Enters Family Circle Cup

Six Top 10 Players to Compete at Historic 35th Anniversary Celebration

The Family Circle Cup has a 35-year history of accomplishments in women’s professional tennis and has set a standard of excellence as a Tier I tournament on the Sony Ericsson WTA Tour. Charleston’s premier sporting event has also become its foremost social affair, and with a full schedule of special activities being planned for its 35th anniversary celebration, it’s fitting that yet another marquis player has committed to the 2008 event. With today’s announcement that World No. 9 Marion Bartoli has officially entered the Family Circle Cup, Charleston’s player field now boasts six of the Top 10 players on the WTA Tour. In addition to Bartoli, the world class draw will also include World No. 1 Justine Henin, No. 4 Jelena Jankovic, No. 6 Venus Williams, No. 7 Anna Chakvetadze, and No. 10 Serena Williams. The Family Circle Cup, America’s oldest Tier I event, will be held April 12th – 20th at the Family Circle Tennis Center in Charleston, South Carolina.
