National Veterans Day Celebration – Charleston, S.C.

The three-day event will include USO-style performances, golf scrambles, a parade, reunions, memorabilia shows, special events and more. The celebration is being organized under the umbrella of the National Veterans Day Celebration Foundations, a new non profit forming to support veterans’ causes and the Celebration. The event is designed to create economic benefits for host communities, as well as to generate funds to support veterans’ charities. Members of the public interested in supporting the effort are encouraged to send tax deductible checks to the National Veterans Day Celebration Fund, c/o Coastal Community Foundation, 90 Mary St., Charleston, SC 29403 or by visiting the foundation’s website, www.ccfgives.org.

Youth Orchestra Of The Lowcountry Concerto Competition – Charleston, S.C.

The Youth Orchestra of the Lowcountry’s concerto competition will take place on Sunday, November 4, 2007 at 3:00 p.m. at the Circular Congregational Church (150 Meeting Street). The competition is open to current members of the Youth Orchestra of the Lowcountry (formerly known as the Charleston Symphony Youth Orchestra), and winners will perform with the Charleston Symphony Orchestra in February.

Adjudicators for the competition are Ellen Dressler Moryl, Director, Office of Cultural Affairs, Yuriy Bekker, Concertmaster, Charleston Symphony Orchestra, and David Maves, Professor Emeritus, College of Charleston.
