First Friday Art Walk – St Augustine, Florida

Join one of St. Augustine’s most popular cultural events on the first Friday of every month from 5 to 9 p.m. Enjoy the latest exhibits, music, entertainment and refreshments at over 20 participating galleries. Tours begin at Rembrandtz Fine Gifts for Fun People, 131 King Street. St. Augustine Sightseeing Trains and Old Town Trolleys offer attendees a complimentary shuttle service to most of the galleries. “The Nutcracker” by Becky’s Box of Puppets – Charleston, SC

Dec. 7 – “The Nutcracker.” Presented by Becky’s Box of Puppets. 10 a.m. (sold out) and 11:30 a.m. G.M. Darby Building, Mt. Pleasant. Puppets up to four feet tall are among the nearly thirty characters performed by one person in the beloved holiday tale of a young girl and her adventures with the Nutcracker Prince. Show lasts about 45 minutes. Groups are welcome.

Shelmore Village is an innovative live + work community located adjacent to I’On in Mt. Pleasant. Shelmore Village is the 2007 headquarters for Christmas Commandos, a local group that hangs presents on Christmas Eve in the trees of homes with bereaved children. Magnolia Plantation and Garden’s Camellia Collection and Charleston’s Angel Oak Tree Earn National Honor

Two Charleston landscapes, The Angel Oak and the camellia collection at Magnolia Plantation and Gardens, are among 21 sites across the nation selected to receive a “Landslide 2007, Heroes of Horticulture” award from The Cultural Landscape Foundation.

The Washington, D.C.-based foundation annually presents the Landslide award to significant landscapes at risk of being lost.

The City of Charleston was selected for Mayor Joseph P. Riley’s efforts to preserve the Angel Oak, a giant Southern oak purchased by the city in 1988. The centuries-old Angel Oak has been threatened by encroaching development on Johns Island, where it currently sites in the Angel Oak Park.

The Preservation Society of Charleston holds its 11th Annual Holiday Book Signing

The Preservation Society of Charleston is pleased to announce its 11th Annual Holiday Book Signing which will be held on Thursday December 6, 2007 from 5:00pm until 8:00pm. The event will take place at the Society’s Book & Gift Shop at the corner of King and Queen Streets. Join fellow literary enthusiasts as you enjoy refreshments and appetizers on this special evening commencing the 2007 holiday season! The public is invited to attend.
The Book Signing will feature over two dozen distinguished Society member authors whose works encompass a wide variety of topics related to Charleston including historic preservation; architecture; social and cultural history; gardening and natural history; biography; art; culinary arts and history; children’s literature and military history.

The annual Holiday Book Signing has become one the Society’s most popular events. Proceeds from the book sales this evening will benefit the Preservation Society of Charleston’s mission of preservation planning, advocacy and preservation education.
