U.S. Air Force Heritage Aire Celtic Ensemble in Downtown Summerville

June 2, 2009 by Susanne Talentino

Friday June 12th at 6 p.m. there is a free concert in Town Square featuring The U.S. Air Force Heritage Aire Celtic Ensemble. The Celtic Ensemble will delight crowds with a blend of contemporary music and traditional Celtic music. Performing on traditional instruments such as the Irish flute, tin whistles, button accordion and bodhran, the Celtic Ensemble is famous for their stunning musical talents.
The group recently deployed to the CENTAF area of responsibility and performed 60 concerts in 55 days around Southwest Asia and the Horn of Africa. As members of the CENTAF Band, the group raised the spirits of Joint Force members and coalition partners serving in the Global War on Terrorism. They also supported humanitarian efforts, bridging cultural divides and easing tensions with foreign nations through music.

This is the third year Summerville has hosted the U.S. Air Force musicians and Summerville D.R.E.A.M. plans to make it a permanent annual event.

Bring a blanket or chairs and enjoy music amidst the ambiance of Historic Downtown Summerville.

For more information or Directions call Summerville D.R.E.A.M. at 843-821-7260.

Break It Down Block Party – Charleston, SC

May 28, 2009 by Susanne Talentino

In Charleston the Spoleto and Piccolo Spoleto take over town this time of year. If you’re looking to expand your horizons and try something new and different, we have found an interesting event.

The Break It Down block party in Charleston is part of Piccolo Spoleto and sounds like a fun event. The block party is put together by the talented interns at the Office of Cultural Affairs. You’ll get to enjoy an 80’s cover band, and break dancers performing to today’s music. The event will take you from the music style of the 80’s to today and highlight our environmental progress at the same time. Sounds interesting. You encouraged to step out on the green carpet in your best 80’s or 90’s garb or simply wear an outfit created of recycled material to fit the theme. If that doesn’t sound like you, just go and watch – it’ll be a blast!

The event takes place at the US Custom House on Concord & Markets Streets in Downtown Charleston on Saturday May 30 from 7.00 pm to 11 p.m. For more information visit www.piccolospoleto.com
