Jekyll Island Beach Music and BBQ Festival 2009

August 12, 2009 by Susanne Talentino

Life’s a Beach, at least on Jekyll Island in August. This has to be one of our favorite “last-chance-to-enjoy-summer” events. Lots of fun with live music, barbeque, shagging lessons and lots more.

Last year we visited the festival and made a video.  (Click here to view our video from last year’s event Jekyll Island Beach Music Festival)

Barbeque Bash

This year the festival has added a Barbecue Competition to the package.
The competition is sanctioned by the Georgia Barbecue Association, so this should be the great spot for some great tasting food.

Now you can win a special VIP Package to Jekyll Island Beach Music and BBQ Bash.  Click here to participate and win four tickets to  Jekyll Island Beach Music and BBQ Bash

First Wednesday Art Walk in Jacksonville – Aug 5th, 2009

August 6, 2009 by Susanne Talentino

Yesterday I visited the First Wednesday Art Walk in downtown Jacksonville. I had a great time, despite the rain – actually, it wasn’t too bad. It sprinkled a little bit, but later on in the evening the rain clouds disappeared.

I picked up my map for the self guided walk from an ambassador dressed in a bright orange shirt at Hemming Plaza and started my walk. There is always a lot to see, and you never know what’s going to happen.

This time I walked through Hemming Plaza, where I found some great photos by Timothy Hall. Check him out next time you go by! He’s very talented. I also stopped by the “Earth Mandala” made in chalk before I headed to the library.

I visited the reception for “Reflections of the River” sponsored by Tree Hill Nature Center. Afterwards I visited the Gallery L in the Modis building for Allison Watson’s reception, and a whole bunch of other galleries in the area.

Although my feet were sore, I enjoyed the evening, and I would definitely recommend visiting the art walk in Jacksonville. It’s just great fun! I’ll let you know as soon as I post the video.

First Wednesday Art walk in Jacksonville

August 3, 2009 by Susanne Talentino

First Wednesday Art Walk has become one of the most popular recurring events in Jacksonville, and no wonder. It is a free, self-guided tour of Downtown Jacksonville’s galleries and museums and more. The Artwalk is held every month from 5-9 p.m. – rain or shine.

It takes place in about 15-block radius in the Downtown area with Hemming Plaza as the focal point. It’s a great opportunity to see some of the creative talent Jacksonville has the offer.

Hemming Plaza
Give your own creativity a chance. Add your own mark with chalk to the spontaneous urban expression, “Earth Mandala.” Then it’s time to let your hair down and shake loose with drum and dance along with the EarthDrum Community Rhythms Circle, beginning at 6:30 p.m.

Also visit:

* The City Kids Art Factory table
* The Friends of Jacksonville Animals, Inc.
* The Landing’s Yappy Hour table
