Fourteen of the Western Hemisphere’s Most Dangerous Snakes Hatched at Jacksonville Zoo and Gardens

Jacksonville Zoo & GardensJacksonville, Florida, November 26, 2007 – Jacksonville Zoo and Gardens has become Bushmaster pit viper central among zoos nationwide.  The fourteen babies are the first offspring of the Zoo’s 5-year-old, 7-foot 6-inch female Bushmaster and its male mate. This is the first time the two have produced offspring. The eggs were hatched after a 75-day incubation period on September 1, 2007.  Each of the neonate Bushmasters (Lachesis muta muta) were an average of 2 ½ ounces in weight and 22 ½ inches long.

Nights of a Thousand Candles – Georgetown, SC

Brookgreen Gardens Experience the enchantment of thousands of sparkling lights from live oak trees as they illuminate garden paths during musical performances and carolers during Brookgreen’ most popular annual event that has now become a holiday tradition.
Back by popular demand, Brookgreen Gardens’ celebrated holiday lights festival, Nights of a Thousand Candles, will expand its hours and add an additional night! This year the gardens will open from 3:00 – 10:00 p.m. for the festival and will offer an early-bird dinner special from 3:30 – 5:00 p.m. The full dinner menu will be served from 5 – 9 p.m. So come early for dinner and stay to see the magic as the gardens glow by candlelight!

Dark of the Moon Tour at the Lighthouse – St Augustine, Florida

December 26th – 30th the St. Augustine Lighthouse and Museum will offer the Dark of the Moon Tour starting at 7:30 p.m.
This hour and a half long tour allows visitors to venture into the Keepers’ House and Tower at night, learn about the history of the St. Augustine Light Station, listen to paranormal tales, and experience darkness inside the St. Augustine Lighthouse.
Space is limited and reservations are required. To reserve your space call Faith at (904) 829-0745 x-207. The cost is $25 per adult and $20 per child. All reservations must be cancelled 24-hours in advance. Children must be at least 7 years old and 44 inches tall to climb the tower.
