Fears That Fortifed Charles Towne – Charleston, South Carolina

During the early years of the settlement, the Charles Towne colonists faced several threats, especially from their primary enemy and colonial rival, the Spanish. The Spanish fleet at St. Augustine, Florida was within three days travel of the fledgling English colony.

Meeting Place: Fortified area – near the crop garden, bring insect repellent and water. Demonstrations begin at 1:00, 2:00 and 3:00pm in the fortified area.

Spring Fling at the Dill Sanctuary – Charleston, South Carolina

Celebrate spring with fun crafts and activities at the Museum’s Dill Sanctuary from 10 am to 12 pm. Search for fiddler crabs in the marsh and use the Museum’s bug boxes to catch creepy crawlies. Every month The Charleston Museum offers a special Saturday program dedicated to providing an educational and exciting experience for the whole family. Join us each month for a different themed event including presentations and craft projects for children of all ages.

Ashley Hall Tour of Homes and Gardens – Charleston, South Carolina

Some of Charleston’s most beautiful private homes and gardens will be part of the annual Ashley Hall Tour of Homes and Gardens on Saturday, April 12, 2008, from 2:00-5:00pm. This tour offers a rare glimpse of some architecturally unique private dwellings and gardens that are not normally on display to the public. The tour takes place in the historic district and all the homes and gardens are within walking distance of each other.

“The Ashley Hall Tour of Homes and Gardens grants unprecedented access to some of the most gorgeous homes in the downtown Charleston area. Visitors will enjoy private access while supporting the Alumnae Scholarship Fund,” says Barbara Bush, proud Ashley Hall Alumni.
