Church Tour in Jacksonville, Florida

Take a tour of seven Downtown historic churches, all built prior to 1925 on Saturday, December 6, 2008 from 1-5 p.m in Jacksonville, Florida. Tickets can be bought at the Main Library, where the tour starts. Each church will have a guide available who will tell you about the architectural and historical significance of the church. Tour participants can walk the tour, and trolley service is also provided along the route.

The following seven churches are participating:

First Baptist Church
First Presbyterian Church
First United Methodist Church
Historic Mt. Zion AME Church
Immaculate Conception Catholic Church
St. John’s Episcopal Cathedral
St. Phillip’s Episcopal Church

Tour begins and ends at the Main Library. Tickets are $5 per person (children 12 and under admitted free) and will go on sale in November. Twenty percent of all ticket sales will benefit the Emergency Services and Homeless Coalition.

Parking:
•Street parking is free
•Free parking is available at First Baptist’s #1 garage on Laura Street between Church and Ashley Streets.

Winter Wonderland – St. Augustine, FL

Lace up your skates and head over to the St. Augustine Amphitheatre to enjoy a Winter Wonderland! Winter Wonderland is free and open to the public Monday through Friday from 6 to 10 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. The ice skating rink is only $8 (skate rental is $2). Sleigh rides take place from 6-10 p.m. (adults $10, $4 for children). This winter extravaganza includes a 100 foot Ice Slide, winter games, an Elf village, onstage performances of the Quiltmaker’s Gift, lighted nature trails, Santa, s’mores on an open fire and much more. Paddle back in time and discover the life ways of the Timucuan Indians and their relationship to the land that they loved. Explore the estuary from Washington Oaks State Park with a professional naturalist and enjoy stories about the Timucuans and the important role the Matanzas Estuary played in their everyday lives. Along our journey, we will stop at an island refuge and visit a Timucuan encampment and learn more about their clothing, shelter, hunting and fishing techniques, tools, weapons and the native foods that helped sustain them. Veterans Day Parade – Jacksonville, Florida
