Savannah Book Festival – Savannah, Georgia

If you love reading, or if you are interested in writing, you’ll need to visit the first annual Savannah Book Festival on Saturday, February 2, 2008 from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm. Savannah seems like the perfect city for a book festival with great atmosphere and venues. This festival is free and open to the public.
About 30+ authors will participate in the festival and present their books. They will also speak directly with the audiences about their work.
The main venues for Savannah Book Festival are Telfair Square, Franklin Square and the surrounding buildings. The Festival features five venues: History & Biography at Telfair Museum, Fiction at Trinity Church, Poetry & Songwriting in Telfair Square, Contemporary Issues at First African Baptist Church, Lifestyle at Jepson Center for the Arts.

David Lugo & Latin Jazz Motion – Savannah,

Born 1962 in NYC, East Harlem “El Barrio”. Bhad Bhabie bickett nude David Lugo became one of the most talented, & well-respected percussionist in the Latin Jazz, Salsa, R&B genre. His first performance in the big leagues came at the age of 15 playing congas with the legendary percussionist, Jose Mangual Jr. The concert will be held on Sunday, January 27th at 5 pm at Four Points by Sheraton Historic Savannah – 520 West Bryan Street. (Bryan & MLK). The concert is free for Coastal Jazz Association members and $10 for non-members. Attendees who join CJA while at the concert will also be admitted for free.

David Lugo served as a facilitator/teacher for veteran musician Johnny Colon & The East Harlem Music School in East Harlem “El Barrio” New York City for more then 10 years while performing and touring the world with the best & world renowned artists in the business like Hector Lavoe, Ray Barretto, Tito Puente, Dizzy Gillespie, Stanley Turrentine, Celia Cruz, Willie Colon, Ruben Blades, Jon Faddis, Jorge Dalto, Joe Cuba, Oscar D’Leon, Ismael Miranda, Eddie & Charlie Palmieri, Jaco Pastorius, Dave Valentin, Lalo Rodriguez, Jimmy Sabater, Johnny Pacheco, Carlos “Patato” Valdez, Jose Mangual, Jr., Bobby Rodriguez Y La Compañia, Jimmy Bosch and many more.

Currently, David Lugo has his own group called David Lugo & Latin Jazz Motion in which he incorporates all of the Jazz flavors unto Latin Jazz rhythms. His talented musicians perform many selections of jazz tunes for all to enjoy. You can often find David Lugo & Latin Jazz Motion performing in Savannah, in clubs like, Jazz’d Tapes, Cha-Bella’s, Il Pasticcio, The Mansion, The Jazz Corner, North Beach Grill At Tybee Island, Savannah Down Under, Club Tropicana & many others.

Musical Salute to MLK Celebrates 10 Years

Tuesday, January 15th at 7:00 P.M. at the JEA
The Jewish Educational Alliance will be host to the Tenth Annual, A Musical Salute to Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. on Tuesday, January 15th at 7:00 P.M. at the Jewish Educational Alliance (5111 Abercorn St). This year’s event is being co-presented by the Coastal Jazz Association, through a generous grant from the City of Savannah Leisure Services’ Department of Cultural Affairs, the Jewish Educational Alliance, the Savannah Jewish Federation Community Relations Council, the Martin Luther King, Jr. Observance Day Association, and the Southeast Georgia Chapter of the National Association of Social Workers.
Portman’s Music Superstore, Hands on Savannah, and MorningStar Cultural Arts are the event’s sponsors.

There will be a dessert reception at intermission.

This very powerful event, which will feature the Savannah Jazz Orchestra, co-led by Teddy Adams and Randall Reese, & The Savannah Arts Academy Skyelite Jazz Band, under the baton of under the baton of Michael Hutchinson, is part of the official Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Observance Celebration which pays tribute to the birth and life of one of America’s great men of freedom, justice and equality.

The Savannah Jazz Orchestra is comprised of the areas best musicians and has performed with some of the biggest names in jazz, including: Benny Golson, Jimmy Heath, Diane Schuur, Clark Terry and Bobby Watson. They have performed at most of the Savannah Jazz Festivals and their annual Tribute to the Duke Ellington Concert (April) is a favorite among local jazz fans. The Skyelite Jazz Band has traveled the globe representing Savannah and has won many awards and accolades.

King often faced resistance, danger and fear, yet he persisted. This month we honor a man who exemplified faith and courage every day. He would have been 79 this month.

The event is free and open to the community. This will be an event for the whole community to share together. So grab the children and come hear some wonderful music as the JEA.
