Georgia’s ‘Village Sentinel’ Is Nation’s Largest Live Oak

40 champs among 733 on National Register of Big Trees

Georgia’s national champion Village Sentinel live oak stands alone at the pinnacle of its species in the 2008-2009 National Register of Big Trees after besting a Louisiana co-champ that had reigned since 1976. Georgia has 40 titleholders among the 733 trees crowned as national champions in the 2008-2009 National Register of Big Trees.

The biennial listing of the largest known trees of 826 species is maintained by American Forests, the nation’s oldest conservation group, and sponsored by The Davey Tree Expert Company.

Beach Bum Weekend – Tybee Island, Georgia

This year, Tybee’s world famous Beach Bum celebration is bigger than ever. Join us for the Beach Bum Parade beginning at 6pm on Friday, May 16th.
Immediately following the parade the festivities continue with free live entertainment under the stars in Memorial Park from 8 to 10 pm. The party will include food, drinks and live music.

SCAD presents annual fashion show with John Galliano – Savannah, Georgia

SAVANNAH, Ga. — The Savannah College of Art and Design will honor fashion legend John Galliano at the college’s annual fashion show Saturday, May 17, at 4 p.m. and 8 p.m. at Trustees Theater, 216 E. Broughton St. Vogue editor-at-large André Leon Talley and SCAD President Paula S. Wallace will present Galliano with the André Leon Talley Lifetime Achievement Award at the 8 p.m. show.
