Duke Ellington Concert features Sam Skelton

The Coastal Jazz Association presents a tribute to Duke Ellington on Sunday, April 27, 2008 which will feature special guest saxophonist, Sam Skelton. As a woodwind doubler, Mr. Skelton is well versed in any genre of music. His grasp of saxophone, clarinet and flute has enabled him to remain very busy in live performance as well as in the studio.

This event will be celebrating the legacy left by one of America’s greatest musicians/composers for what would have been his 109th birthday (born April 29, 1899).

Literary Events at SCAD – Savannah, Georgia

SAVANNAH, Ga.—Two new events hosted by the Savannah College of Art and Design School of Liberal Arts offer exposure to an array of literary genres for the public. Award-winning writer Shirley Geok-lin Lim, Ph.D., appears as part of the Visiting Writers Series April 10, 7 p.m., at the SCAD Student Center, 120 Montgomery St. On April 14, the first-ever SCAD Writer’s Assembly happens at 7 p.m., Trustees Theater, 216 E. Broughton St. Both events are free and open to the public.

Broughton Street International Festival – Savannah, Georgia

The Savannah College of Art and Design presents the 10th annual Broughton Street International Festival, featuring traditional music, dance, art and food to celebrate the diversity of SCAD’s international arts community. The event is free and open to the public.

Opening Receiption for “Melodies” – Savannah, Georgia

Artist Amiri Farris will hold an art exhibit at the Jewish Alliance Education Center of Savannah.  “Melodies”, will be the show theme, denoting the musical talents of those whose faces will be displayed. Melodies will feature images of local jazz artists; Teddy Adams, James Moody, Irene Reed, and others.  Mr. Farris considers it a high honor and privilege to be able to capture and display the images of these jazz legends.
