Dmitri Levkovich at the Lucas Theatre – Savannah, Georgia

Not only is Dmitri Levkovich known as an exceptionally gifted pianist, this 27 year old native of Ukraine is also establishing a fine reputation as a composer. He has been descried as one of the most promising talents of today. Levkovich has studied at the Curtis Institute in Philadelphia, and trains now at the Cleveland Institute of Music as a result of sinning a concerto competition there. As a prize for winning the Hilton Head Internation Piano Competetion, he made his debut at in the fall of 2006 at the Weill Recital Hall of Carnegie Hall in NY. The review was excellent. Having appeared in Savannah during 2006 at chamber music concerts, this will be his first solo recital here. His program is to be announced.

Sam Bush – Savannah, Georgia

Though he admits a certain discomfort with the moniker “King of Newgrass,” Sam Bush has more than earned it. As cofounder and leader of the seminal progressive bluegrass band New Grass Revival through 18 years during the 1970s and ‘80s, Bush may not be the only person responsible for newgrass, the wild bluegrass stepchild that features rock ‘n’ roll grooves and extended virtuosic jams, but since New Grass Revival’s dissolution in 1989, Bush has certainly been one of the most brilliant of newgrass’s many bright lights.

Charlie Pate will open this evening’s performance.

The Civil Rights Generation Meets the Hip Hop Generation
Friday, February 22 at 7 p.m. Presented by AWOL Inc.

AWOL was started in 1997 on Savannah State Universities campus by Mr. Tony “Polo” Jordan and a small group of friends. AWOL was the first registered campus-based spoken word (poetry) organization. The organization functioned as an outlet for young artist to express themselves through the artistic forms of poetry and rap.
