SCAD Students Named Finalists for Coca-Cola Refreshing Filmmaker’s Award

Filmmaking team one of only 10 in the nation to advance to competition finals
SAVANNAH, Ga.—Savannah College of Art and Design undergraduate students Colin Levy and Roque Smith-Nonini have been named finalists for the 2008 Coca-Cola Refreshing Filmmaker’s Award competition. Their team is one of only 10 in the nation to reach the final round of competition.

The annual Coca-Cola Refreshing Filmmaker’s Award competition is by invitation only, and SCAD was one of just 13 colleges in the United States asked to participate, marking the college’s second consecutive invitation.

Savannah Swing Central Draws Over 3240 High School Students

Aspiring young musicians to perform, study with and watch performances by esteemed clinicians including Marcus Roberts, Wycliffe Gordon, Jeff Clayton, James Ketch and Marcus Printup

Savannah, Georgia – Savannah Music Festival (SMF) has selected twelve outstanding high school jazz bands from across the nation to participate in its expanded high school jazz band program, SWING CENTRAL, which takes place April 3-5, 2008.  This year, the well-established three-day workshop program features some of the country’s finest high school jazz bands going head-to-head for $13,000 in cash awards. “The students and I are excited about the opportunity to hear other bands that are working hard and are dedicated to the music,” says New World School for the Arts Jazz and Instrumental Studies Professor, Jim Gasior. “We are thrilled with the lineup of performers and educators that will lead the clinics and workshops.”

Black Maria Film and Video Festival – Svannah, Georgia

SAVANNAH, Ga. — The Savannah College of Art and Design will host the 27th Black Maria Film and Video Festival Feb. 16, 8 p.m., at Lucas Theatre, 32 Abercorn St. The festival is free with a valid SCAD ID and $5 for the general public.

The Black Maria Film and Video Festival is an international traveling showcase of independent short films and videos, stopping nationwide at more than 55 host institutions. The festival strives to identify, showcase and reward compelling new independent media, reach audiences in a wide variety of venues and advocate exceptional achievements by diverse artists who expand the expressive terrain of film and video.

SCAD Museum of Art to host exhibition in honor of Black Heritage Festival – Savannah, Georgia

SAVANNAH, Ga. –The Walter O. Evans Center for African American Studies and the SCAD Museum of Art and will host an exhibition as part of the Savannah Black Heritage Festival. The exhibition, titled “Poetic Visions: Focus on Black Women Artists,” will be on display Feb.1-14, 2008, 10 a.m.-5 p.m. A reception will be held Feb. 5, 5-6 p.m. Both the exhibition and the reception will take place at the SCAD Museum of Art’s temporary gallery on the third floor of Jen Library, 201 E. Broughton St., and are free and open to the public.
