Skidaway Marine Science Day – Savannah, GA

On Saturday October 10, University of Georgia Marine Extension Service Aquarium, the Skidaway Institute of Oceanography, and Gray’s Reef National Marine Sanctuary invites you and your family to visit for a the Skidaway Marine Science Day.

This is a great opportunity for you to learn more about the coast and its inhabitants including   turtles, gators, and snakes. There will also be tours, classes, lectures, and experiments.

This is a free event.

Plan for Halloween in Charleston

Charleston is rich in history, stories, spirits and legends. The city has lots of haunted places and ghosts, so there is no shortage of ghost tours or tours of haunted houses. Halloween in Charleston is always special, and the city offers a wide variety of spectacular fall festivals, exciting corn mazes, colorful pumpkin patches and many other Halloween happenings. Latin American Festival 2009 – Charleston, SC

When the air is cooling off, it’s time to turn up the heat. Now you can celebrate Latin American music during this special festival where Salsa and Merengue music will fill the air. The 2009 Latin American Festival takes place on Sunday, October 4 from 12pm-6pm. at Wannamaker County Park in Charleston, South Carolina. This is a great event for the whole family.

Let the kids enjoy all-you-can-ride inflatables with the purchase of a $5 wristband, while you show off your amazing dance skills in a Salsa dance contest hosted by DJ Luigi of Latin Groove, but if dancing is not your thing, who about trying delicious, authentic cuisine from Puerto Rico, Peru, Colombia, and other Latin American countries instead.
Also explore the world in the Global Education building and learn about different cultures through crafts, storytelling, and more.

CoastFest 2009 – Brunswick, Georgia

CoastFest is a family-oriented environmental festival where participants learn about Georgia’s coastal resources and have some fun at the same time. CoastFest 2009 takes place on Saturday October 3, 2009 from 10.00 am – 4.00 pm in Brunswick, GA. Admission is free, so it’s perfect for the family!

Each year more than 7,000 visitors come to the festival to learn about our nature and the coastal environment. This year you’ll find exibits from over 85 area coastal, environmental, educational and resource organizations.

Since 1995, Coastal Resources Division in support of the three-week national ‘CoastWeeks’ event held in all 50 states to celebrate the nation’s waters and shorelines has hosted CoastFest on the first Saturday in October.

Art Activities for Kids, Cannon firing demonstrations, Creek Indian encampement, face painting, Living history demonstrations, Touch tanks and much more.

Dora the Explorer at South Carolina Aquarium – Charleston

Charleston, S.C. – September 8, 2009 – Come meet Dora the Explorer at the South Carolina Aquarium on Saturday, September 12 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
On this Saturday you can participate in a special Dora-themed scavenger hunt, I-spy games, and you can watch Dora help out at the 11 a.m. Deep Ocean Tank Dive Show. Dora will lend a hand and help feed and care for the animals in the Aquarium’s largest exhibit.

Dora Up Close and Personal
Get your picture taken with the celebrity herself. Sit in Dora’s lap and snap your own photo or purchase a photograph of your child with Dora professionally printed and packaged on site.

Don’t miss this opportunity to meet everyone’s favorite young explorer and explore the South Carolina Aquarium! The event takes place at the South Carolina Aquarium, 100 Aqurium Wharf, Charleston on Saturday September 12, 10 a.m. – 4 p.m.
