Get out your cooking utensils because it’s time for the annual Gingerbread House Competition! This competition is held in conjunction with the Holiday Festival of Lights at James Island County Park. The contest is free & open to both youth & adults. Contestants make traditional edible creations that are judged for overall appearance, creativity, difficulty, & craftsmanship. Prizes are awarded & the top three entries in each division will be displayed in Santa’s Sweet Shoppe during the entire Holiday Festival of Lights. Parental involvement should be limited to items pertaining to safety. Award Ceremony will take place at the Park Center on Nov 9 at 6:30pm. Everyone must be pre-registered. Youth Orchestra Of The Lowcountry Concerto Competition – Charleston, S.C.
The Youth Orchestra of the Lowcountry’s concerto competition will take place on Sunday, November 4, 2007 at 3:00 p.m. at the Circular Congregational Church (150 Meeting Street). The competition is open to current members of the Youth Orchestra of the Lowcountry (formerly known as the Charleston Symphony Youth Orchestra), and winners will perform with the Charleston Symphony Orchestra in February.
Adjudicators for the competition are Ellen Dressler Moryl, Director, Office of Cultural Affairs, Yuriy Bekker, Concertmaster, Charleston Symphony Orchestra, and David Maves, Professor Emeritus, College of Charleston. Harvest Festival – Charleston, S.C.
In the olden days families fall and the beginning of harvest was a time of thanks and celebration. This fall festival on St Johns Island is packed with fun-filled activities for the fall season. It features a crafters market, delicious countryfood, hay-rides and children’s activities, live bluegrass music and much more. Kids activities include a pony rides, lassoing contests, pumpkin decorating, and scarecrow designing.
