Georgia’s ‘Village Sentinel’ Is Nation’s Largest Live Oak

40 champs among 733 on National Register of Big Trees

Georgia’s national champion Village Sentinel live oak stands alone at the pinnacle of its species in the 2008-2009 National Register of Big Trees after besting a Louisiana co-champ that had reigned since 1976. Georgia has 40 titleholders among the 733 trees crowned as national champions in the 2008-2009 National Register of Big Trees.

The biennial listing of the largest known trees of 826 species is maintained by American Forests, the nation’s oldest conservation group, and sponsored by The Davey Tree Expert Company.

You will learn how a snake moves, smells, hears, and other senses. Learn how to identify a venomous snake, the safe way! Answer all these questions and more as well as the opportunity for a hands-on snake experience under the supervision of our naturalist. The snakes presented in the program are non-venomous and native to the park

Butterflies – Up Close and Personal – Jacksonville, Florida

The 7th Annual Butterfly Festival, a celebration of gossamer-winged creatures takes place on Saturday, April 26, from noon to 5 p.m. Have a close encounter with native Florida butterflies.

Activities will include a butterfly release, live music, delicious food, guest lecturers, butterflies, vendors and fun things for children to do! Our guest will be able to roam the nature trails, shop at the booths and learn about the different environmental agencies from our community!
