Vendors Needed for the 2010 Florida Georgia Street Festival at the Landing

Vendors are needed for the 2010 Florida vs. Georgia Street Festival at the Jacksonville Landing in downtown Jacksonville, Florida.

This Street Festival takes place on FRIDAY, OCTOBER 29 from 10AM to 2PM. Vendors will be setting up on Independent Drive right in front of the Jacksonville Landing. Plan to arrive early- between 7 am and 8 am to get a good spot. No Food Vendors Please!

Savannah Film Festival Announces Workshops and Panels

The 2010 Savannah Film Festival, which runs Oct. 30 – Nov. 6, has announced its program of panels and workshops. A diverse group of film professionals – designers, cinematographers, writers, directors – from the industry’s top television and movie studios will participate in panel and question-and-answer discussions on a variety of topics about the film, television and digital media business.

Among the top professionals hosting the variety of panels are:
• The dialog, sound, and film editors behind ABC’s hit series, “Lost”;
• Michael Lembeck, the Emmy Award-winning director of “Friends” and the feature films “The In-Laws” and “The Santa Clause 2”;
• Denise Cramsey, the seven-time Emmy Award-nominated producer of “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition” and “Trading Spaces”;
• Carson Kressley, the fashion expert on Bravo’s “Queer Eye for the Straight Guy” and the host of ‘How to Look Good Naked’ and “True Beauty”;
• Barry Rosenbush, the Emmy Award-winning producer of the “High School Musical” series
• Lev Spiro, the director of “Weeds,” “Ugly Betty” and “Everybody Hates Chris.”

Panels and workshops will include:
• “The Next Big Hit,” how to package and sell your idea;
• “The Cable Documentary,” how the cable documentary goes from idea to the screen;
• “Getting The Gig,” reality TV hosts discuss how to create your brand;
• “Young Director’s Forum,” advice on going from student director to professional;
• “Casting Director, Actor Agent,” advice for aspiring casting directors, agents and actors;
• “Kodak presents STOP BY. SHOOT FILM,” a fun learning opportunity – talk to a top cinematographer; learn how to use a 16mm camera; and film and shoot your own scene – all under two hours.

Panels are $5 for the general public; $3 for students, seniors and military; and free for SCAD students, faculty and staff with a valid SCAD ID.

Free Admission to National Parks – Fall 2010

Visit one of our national parks on September 25, 2010 or November 11, 2010, without paying admission. The National Park Service offers fee free days every year, and these are the two dates for the fall. Pack a picnic and take family and friends to a state park for a visit. In our area you could for for example visit the Castillo de San Marco or Fort Pulaski.

  • September 25, 2010 – Public Lands Day
  • November 11, 2010 – Veterans Day

Cumberland Island National Seashore, Georgia

Fort Frederica National Monument, St Simons Island, GA
Spanish and British forces clashed on St. Simons Island in 1792. Fort Frederica’s troops defeated the Spanish troops. Georgia remained a British colony.

Fort Pulaski National Monument
The Battle of Fort Pulaski in April 1862 featured the first significant use of rifled cannons in combat. The fort surrendered, which was a turning point, signaling the end of masonry fortifications.

SOUTH CAROLINA

Fort Moultrie National Monument – Charleston, SC
The National Park Service’s fee-free weekends apply to Fort Moultrie, a unit of Fort Sumter National Monument. The site is located on Sullivan’s Island and is accessible by car. Fort Sumter is always free – but there is a fee for the ferry boat ride to the fort.

FLORIDA
Castillo de San Marcos National Monument – St. Augustine, FL
The Castillo was constructed to defend Spain’s claims in the New World. It was never defeated in battle. The Castillo witness to over 330 years of history and culture and is an impressive place to visit.
