Contemporary Crazy Quilt Collection Comes
to Gallery S.P.A.C.E.

SAVANNAH, Ga. – A vibrant display of handmade quilts created by members of the Georgia Quilt Council, Inc., will be on display at the City of Savannah’s Gallery S.P.A.C.E. Aug. 13 through Sept. 28. The exhibit, “Crazy Quilts for Modern Times”, will showcase a collection of contemporary Crazy Quilts — patchwork quilts of pieces of cloth of various shapes, colors, and sizes, sewn together in an irregular pattern. Works on display will range from traditional intricate handwork to contemporary interpretations, building on the irregular patchwork
and decorative embellishments that emerged with the Crazy Quilt style during the late 1800’s. Complimenting the Crazy Quilts
will be other quilting styles from Savannah collections, including full-sized quilts, clothing, hand- and machine-quilted items and embroidery works.

Animated Character Inspires Alec Baldwin to Speak Out for Manatees

August 3, 2007 by Susanne Talentino

Save The ManateeAmidst a busy, demanding schedule that rarely lets up for a moment, prominent Hollywood actor and producer Alec Baldwin set aside some time recently to help Florida’s imperiled manatees. Donating both his time and talent to Save the Manatee Club, the Golden Globe winner of NBC TV’s Emmy award-nominated comedy series 30 Rock, recorded several audio public service announcements in a Manhattan studio.

Save the Manatee Club had contacted Baldwin after The Simpson’s 2005 season opener, “Bonfire of the Manatees,” where he starred as the animated guest voice of “Caleb Thorn,” a biologist who is passionate about protecting manatees. At the recording session, Baldwin remarked, “Who thought that, like my Caleb Thorn character, eventually I’d be saving manatees, too!”

The 30-second radio messages, which are currently being distributed to stations nationwide, promote manatee awareness, and urge the public to get involved and help the beleaguered marine mammals.

Ted’s Butcherblock in Charleston Named a Top Local Secret, Big Find

August 2, 2007 by Susanne Talentino

TRAVELOCITY AND IGOUGO NAME TED’S BUTHERBLOCK
IN CHARLESTON A TOP INSIDER SPOT FOR S.C.
IN THE 2007 EDITION OF
“LOCAL SECRETS, BIG FINDS”

THE VOTES ARE IN! Travelocity and IgoUgo’s “Local Secrets, Big Finds” poll for 2007 revealed Ted’s Butcherblock as one of the top local favorites in South Carolina. Travelocity conducted a nationwide poll, asking members to vote for their favorite local spots. A team of editors investigated over 10,000 nominations from across the country and voted to create the final list, which highlights Ted’s Butcherblock among only five featured South Carolina destinations. The list may be viewed by visiting svc.travelocity.com/promos/localsecrets_2007_southcarolina.com.

“Foodies swoon over this “charming” international market, meat counter, and café where the “food is delicious and the staff is friendly,” states Travelocity. “In all of Charleston, there is “nothing else like this store” filled with “enticing aromas and colorful displays.” Locally owned and operated (the owner is heavily involved in community projects and charities), the market offers a “huge selection” of only all-natural meats and poultry, boutique wines, “artisan” cheese, specialty ingredients, fresh pastas, and made-to-order sandwiches. Each month, the cuisine of a different region of the world is celebrated.”

In addition to being selected as one of Travelocity’s “Local Secrets, Big Finds,” Ted’s Butcherblock was featured on the global travel company’s blog, The Window Seat. Writer Holly Burns notes that Ted’s is a “foodie’s dream,” with “huge deli-style sandwiches, to-die-for gourmet sides, an excellent wine selection, and walls and walls of fancy treats that gastronomes may well have a fainting fit over.” To read the full review, visit http://windowseat.travelocity.com/authorarchives_holly.html.
